J.Potts Design
Woodworking artist Joshua Potts was born and raised in Maryland. He now resides with his family just north of Baltimore city, in Lutherville. Josh enjoyed a childhood surrounded by woods and farms. Spending time in nature established a reverence for the beauty of the natural world and the relationships connecting all aspects of our environment. Patterns from nature can be found throughout Josh's work, creating an aesthetic that pays homage to the mysteries and rhythms of life.
From a young age Josh was artistically inclined, inspired by the work of M.C. Escher and Dali, and he developed his sense of design with painting and drawing. His woodworking journey began after a carpentry apprenticeship in Vermont, and it has evolved over the last 24 years into what it is today. Aside from some art classes in college, Josh is a self-taught artist and follows his own inclinations to learn, experiment and constantly refine his craft. He has received a few notable awards since deciding to pursue his woodwork full time in 2022, including two consecutive “Best in 3D Media” from the Baltimore County Art Guild (2022 and 2023), as well as a “Best in Show” at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center Artsfest (2023).
